John B. Haynes, Sr.
As of July 1, 2010 we welcome to the Miles Family Rev. John B. Haynes, Sr. Pastor John has a passion for leading worship, nurture, and outreach ministry that celebrates the good news of Jesus Christ, facilitiates spirtual growth, empowers laity-clergy cooperation
and offers God's hospitality to the surrounding neighborhood and the world beyond.
Following a career in the United States Navy, Pastor John responded to God's call to pastoral ministry, earned a Master of Divinity degree
from the Seminary at Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, was ordained as an elder in the United Methodist Church
and began serving pastoral appointments in Virginia on the Staunton, Charlottesville, Peninsula and Norfolk districts.
Pastor John and Robin, his wife of 37 years, have two adult sons, John, Jr. and Matt. John, Jr and his wife Kathleen are a United Methodist Clergy couple serving on the Norfolk District. Matt, a career Army Officer and his wife Hayley are active in their local
church near Fort Gordon, Georgia and are expecting their second child in late July or early August.
UPDATE - Fourth grandchild has arrived ! August 5 and her name is Alysia Joy. Congratulations Pastor John and Robin.
Cyndie Seamans 
Cyndie's position is that of Administrative Assistant.
She and husband Bruce have been married for 28 years and have 2 grown children; Natalie 23 will be graduating from JMU in
December with a Masters in Occupational Therapyand Ian 21 who is a full time student at TCC and works part time at Farm
Fresh Wards Corner.
Cyndie is originally from Winchester, VA and the oldest of 5 children. She and Bruce moved to Norfolk in August from northern Virginia for Bruce to complete his requirements for an engineering degree from ODU. Cyndie was employed by the Department
of Defense until1988,then pursued her desire to stay home with children until Ian entered high school. Cyndie likes bowling,
reading and enjoys puzzles and games of every kind. Her vices....... Chocolate and coffee!
Bruce's family lives in NJ and his dad and grandfather are both Methodist ministers. The Seamans are active members of Christ
UMC on Bayview Blvd and Cyndie sings in the choir.
Lynne Henderson
Lynne is the Music Director here at Miles Memorial. She is married to Claude, a member of the choir and instrumentalist.
Lynne has a son, daughter and two beautiful grandchildren. She is originally from North Carolina. Her professional experience has taken her from accompanist to worship leader having served at several churches since beginning her music ministry at age 10.
Lynne's role here at Miles includes developing new music ministries and opportunities. Besides a career in music she has also experienced a successful profession in real estate with several well known firms. When not working or playing piano, she is trying to become the fifth member of the Gaither Vocal Band or scrapbooking with other friends and church members.
Valerie Ballge 
Valerie is the organist at Miles She and her husband Duane moved from northern Indiana to Norfolk where Valerie grew up. Together they have 8 children, 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Valerie is enjoying being home with her parents. Duane is retired from the Air Force and currently working for the City of Norfolk.
Valerie has been active in the Music Ministry for many years and has worked in numerous churches including her past church, Faith United Methodist Church in Goshen Indiana where she had been pianist for the last 10 years. She studied piano and organ with the late Helen Castles from Norfolk for 11 years and then studied piano and voice at Indiana University.
Valerie and her husband enjoy fishing together and being outdoors. She is excited about the opportunities of ministry here at Miles Memorial UMC and is happy to be a part of our fellowship.
Tina Evans, Jamie Harris and Tommie Frazier
These ladies are the Nursery attendants for both the 8:30 and 11:00AM Sunday worship services. They can also be called upon to provide childcare for other functions at the church.
